Property building, Bed in KABIN Kyoto
This property was a more modern Western style hotel. The room was quite spacious and well laid out with a lot of free amenities provided including toiletries and umbrellas during the rainy times. They also had a bar and restaurant on the ground floor. The bathroom was clean and decently spaced out and the room that we were given had a lot of natural light. There was also a great luggage storage service at the sister location less than a block away which was open 24 hours. The location was also decent as it let us walk to the shopping areas as well as some of the sites in Gion. It was about a 5-minute walk to the closest bus stop and 15-minute walk to a train stop which seemed okay for Kyoto. The neighbourhood it was located in had a lot of restaurants and cafes that could be explored.

The location and helpful staff, who all spoke English, were the standouts. The beds were extremely comfortable. Having said that, there were quite a few small things that bothered us. We found the air in the rooms to be very dry, and had to ask for a humidifier, which they supplied. The laundry dryers were hopeless, and we would have appreciated some more hooks or drawers for clothes. Our Classic King room was very clean but spartan - no cutlery, no plates, not even instant coffee. It seemed designed to force you to their cafe, where the coffee was fine but a little overpriced. And the cups in the room were metal - they looked cool, but were actually too hot to pick up when full of freshly made tea.

The lobby and entire downstairs area are very nicely furnished, and the restaurant is very nice as well. The room was clean and comfortable. It was a bit quirky with the sink located in the bedroom instead of the bathroom. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and we slept great. The location is away from the main tourist area. There is a metro stop fairly close by. Unfortunately, we ended up taking expensive taxi rides to the bamboo forest and other attractions. You can walk to shopping and restaurants, and the beautiful river area. We felt at home in the Kabin, but for us it was very expensive because of the cherry blossom season, and our late booking of the room.

-Modern, with neutral tones and cosy lighting -Spacious -Bright with a lot of natural light -Amenities including towels available in the corridor -Fridge and kettle in the room -Well located with a konbini nearby, in a rather quiet street yet close (10-15min) from more lively areas -Small table with two chairs appreciated allowing for computer work -Nice bathroom/shower (unlike most ´plastic cabin bathrooms’ found in a lot of hotels) -No key card: code used to unlock the bedroom -Pictures matching reality I was afraid this would only be a trendy place catering to specific type of people, with overly friendly staff but this was not the case.

Kabin is a must stay at Kyoto, it had everything that we expected and beyond. Room was quite good size, check in was as easy as it can get with their own app ( which of course I downloaded ) and location was a big plus, and the best part was we had the best coffees of our Japan trip ( and believe me it's a big complement coming from Melbourne coffee lovers). I would HIGHLY recommend this to all my friends. And we stayed here for 5 nights and didn't have a single problem. They had their towels and all accessible to you anytime you want, instead of waiting for service staff to come and change for you.
